Choosing the Right UPS to Protect Your PC

How many VA you need and how long the backup lasts — the maths made simple.

A sudden power cut costs more than unsaved work — drives and motherboards can be damaged when they lose power mid-write. A correctly sized UPS prevents both.

How many VA do you need?

A simple rule: add up the wattage of your PC and monitor, then divide by 0.6 to get the minimum VA rating.

  • Office PC + 24" monitor (~150W) → 650VA is enough, giving 15–20 minutes.
  • Gaming PC with a graphics card (~350W) → go for 1200VA or higher.

Things to remember

Never plug a printer or fridge into a UPS — a laser printer draws a huge surge as it warms up and will trip the unit. Batteries typically last two to three years; if backup time drops off sharply, it is time for a replacement.

Bring your configuration to our showroom and we will tell you the right VA rating before you buy.
